"All works, no matter what or by whom painted, are nothing but bagatelles and childish trifles... unless they are made and painted from life, and there can be nothing... better than to follow nature." - Caravaggio

Michelangelo Merisi da Caravaggio was an Italian painter born in Milan, Italy. Forgotten almost immediately after his death in 1610, it was only in the 20th century that his importance to the development of Western art was rediscovered.

Originally commissioned by the Church of Pio Monte della Misericordia, The Seven Acts of Mercy (also known as The Seven Works of Mercy) was Caravaggio’s first masterpiece painting since he killed a man and fled from Rome in October of 1606, taking refuge in Naples under the protection of the powerful Colonna family.

Luca transports us to the historic center of Naples to explore southern Italy and discover this masterpiece by Caravaggio, "The Most Famous Painter in Rome."
