Itinerary
Art in Rome is more alive than ever. You’ve seen the masterpieces in museums and spectacular churches, now experience art on the walls of Rome’s “quartieri” just outside the city center. Historically working-class industrial neighborhoods, each with their own unique history and feel, are becoming open-air museums thanks to the works of local and international street artists. Let’s discover the most important ones together and learn more about the social context in which this “people’s art renaissance” is taking place.
Luca will also explore local food, spirits and interesting personalities in each neighborhood.

Quadraro
Following the tour of the Jewish Quarter, Luca takes us virtually to Quadraro, which today is a vibrant neighborhood on the rise, but in the era of WWII was viewed as the refuge of "informers, partisans, communists.” At the time, when someone could not find refuge or welcome in convents or at the Vatican, he slipped into Quadraro, where he disappeared.
The history and very soul of this district is by nature “political” and so it is fitting that the street art and culture in the Quadraro district reflect this instinct.
It is here that David "Diavù" Vecchiato, started the project, Street Art MURo Urban Museum of Rome, which offers, “declarations of love for the Eternal City. Rome is like a 3,000-year-old grandmother who has endless stories to tell us, and painting in her streets is a bit like tattooing her skin.”
Luca will introduce us to many of the iconic street artists from all over the world with something to say about life, struggle, freedom, and simple expressions of the beauty around us.
And, of course the food.
The district is home to many immigrants who bring the tastes and traditions of their countries to their new home in Rome. Luca will share his love of street food, and introduce us to the future of mama mia’s polpetta. Long live the meatball!
