Inspired by Luca’s Art in Rome Through Time Zoom course, this Artisans of Rome series will take you deep into the everlasting art forms that developed in Rome through the centuries and are still flourishing today, thanks to dedicated artisans who will share their own history and experiences with you.

Mosaic was the most popular art form in Ancient Rome. Every palace, wealthy residence or important public space was decorated with mosaics representing mythological or natural scenes. During the Christian and Byzantine period, artists introduced gold, enamel and glass tiles resulting in breathtaking mosaic artworks, as seen for centuries within the holy walls of the Eternal City.

Today, Rome hosts a large number of workshops where artisans keep the most authentic artistic tradition alive.

Learn the secrets of mosaic through a young artisan whose creations combine traditional craftsmanship, jewelry and fashion.
