Art Around the World—Live with Luca: Raphael @ the Vatican Museums in Rome

It's written on the tomb of one of the greatest painters of the Renaissance, Raphael Santi.

On the occasion of the 500-year anniversary of his death we’ll explore together the sublime art that earned Raphael the title of “Prince of Painters.”

Through a virtual visit to the Vatican Museums you’ll get the full story behind his iconic School of Athens and learn about his rivalry with Michelangelo. And, with a selection of his best works on display in the once-in-a-lifetime show Raffaello 1520-2020 we’ll discuss:  What techniques does Raphael employ? What meaning do the icons convey? What are the not-so-secret or untold stories behind the scenes? Take away an understanding of why Raphael was recognized as the supreme High Renaissance painter, dominating the academic tradition of Western painting until the mid-19th century. Let’s explore!
